American Legion Post 202 Oratorical 2017 High School contest

What is it: A Constitutional Speech Contest – to involve high school students, grades 9th thru 12th, on The Constitution of The United States. This educational opportunity will allowed the student to compete for scholarship awards.

Post 202 introduced this scholarship program opportunity to Westover HS; Terry Sanford HS; Cape Fear HS; Jack Britt HS; Pine Forest HS; Seventy-First HS; Douglas Byrd HS; E.E. Smith HS, and Cumberland Polytechnic HS

Post 202’s candidate that will represent the 2016-17 competition came out of Cumberland Polytechnic HS (Samantha Da Cruz -Senior).

School Contest – Dec 16, 2016
Post or County Contest – Jan 7-15, 2017
District Contest – January 21-29, 2017
Division Contest – February 5-18, 2017
Department (State) Finals TBA March 4, 2017 (March 11, Snow Date)

Last years American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program National top three contestants:
First Place: Benjamin Crosby – Washington State
Second Place: Solomon Brown – Mississippi
Third Place: Cheyenne Mathews – Alaska

The American Legion Oratorical Contest celebrates its 79th year.

The work put into their oration preparation will be very fruitful to the winners. While the candidate wins each level competition their cash prize increases and credited to them.

1st Prize…$18,000
2nd Prize…$16,000
3rd Prize…$14,000

State Scholarships:
1st Prize…$3,500
2nd Prize…$750
3rd Prize…$500
4th Prize…$500
5th Prize…$500

$2,000 State Scholarship plus $1,500 for participating in Nation Contest
